Palestine Learning Tour Delegation Reports

Friday, January 13th, 2012by Rod White

It was one of those nights you “kind of had to be there.” One of our cell leaders said, “It was valuable to me to observe people’s reactions when I invited them to this event.  Many people were quite shocked: ‘Are you kidding me? You are actually going to spend time thinking about that?’ and then  they were intrigued that we, as a people, spend time thinking about things like this.  Very valuable. ” About 120 people had an opportunity to find it valuable. Many have said they did.

There was a lot going on in the meeting. We had an historical overview of the Israel/Palestine coexistence/conflict, instruction about illegal settlements, about the infamous separation barrier, about unequal access to resources, about house demolition,  about militarization.

We tried to keep it played out on a backdrop of hope, since the delegation met some of the most amazing people ever, in both Israel and the Palestinian Territories, who are keeping their hope and acting with peace in their hearts every day, with some remarkable results.

Hopefully, some people will comment who want to inform us about further resources and what MCC and others are doing to follow up on what we saw.

Delegates on MCC Learning Tour to Palestine

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011by admin

Curtis Book, Mary Ward Bucher, Sarah Mueller, Rod and Gwen White returned from Palestine brimming with new knowledge and ideas to share. They had a very enlightening tour of MCC projects and partners in Palestine and Israel, as well as seeing the holy sites. At left they are happy in a “shepherd’s cave” outside Bethlehem. You will undoubtedly be hearing more. Here is a taste at Rod’s blog [link]. Here is a bit from Daryl and Cindy Byler’s blog (MCC Middle East Rep) [link]. Final Caring from the Water Team

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011by Rod White

The Water Team had a good run as a Compassion Team devoted to working out the increasing difficulties with the distribution of water around the world. They were a brainy bunch and worked on technical solutions to developing-world issues, educated us about the world situation, and helped us figure out our own practical responses to water use and conservation.

One of their notable achievements was the design and construction of a water catchment system for our friend Andrea’s greenhouse in Camden. Here’s a look at it: link. They also raised money and contributed to water collection projects, conservation initiatives and well-digging in Africa and South America.

When their team ended, there was money left over. After consulting with former members, the Compassion Core Team disbursed the $4505 to two places dear to our hearts.

1) The People’s Science Insitute in Dehradun, India. They are working with applying science to the water issues of India. Will Stichter spent a season with them.

2) Two MCC water projects.  We designated funds for wells and dams in Zambia, where we have many Brethren in Christ churches, and for rain harvesting projects in Northern Brazil, where the former water team had interests.

Thanks for your vision Water Team! You had a great run. Your passion encourages the rest of us to get organized to do what God calls us to do. If you wonder how to start a compassion team, check out this brochure.
